You would have taken the time to show care and concern for someone in your life, who may have needed a little bit of attention. Who may have needed a friend to listen, and be there for them. This is the essence of this year’s Rotary Theme of “Create Hope in the World”.

 Let’s all join together and THANK PENE HUTTON for her over 20 years of service, serving as D7090 Executive Secretary, and Secretary to 20 District Governors! We all have stories of how Pene helped us, mentored us, shared words of wisdom, direction, jumped in, threw out a lifeline, and shared her humor. She has been our “Go To” for over 20 years. We cannot thank Pene enough for her commitment to continuity and being a resource for almost everything in Our Best of Friends D7090.
Pene initially chose to retire from her employment with D7090 the end of June so she could spend more time with family. As many of you may know, Pene suffered the tragic loss of her son Matthew in April, and she chose to complete her role a little earlier, at the end of May. We have been supporting her during this time of profound grief. Her longstanding volunteerism and employment with our district has been invaluable. She truly lives her life as “Service Above Self”.

 The Governance Committee helps to organize support for Clubs in the area of good governance education, creating needed and useful tools to help Clubs manage goals, and for the District to operate effectively. These resources are a few clicks away on the District website. We deal with issues such as insurance, policy development, effective procedures, and other changes large and small. Ancaster AM Autumn Stroll FundraiserAncaster AM  , recently held our annual Autumn Stroll fundraiser, Sunday September 10th. Autumn Stroll is now in its 25th year and is an incredible community event of local restaurants, wineries and craft breweries from the GTA in Ontario. The event is fully sold out each year to an exciting 700 guests who sample and taste the wonders of our community over 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon. It is an incredible afternoon of food, drinks and musical entertainment in the Dundas Valley Conservation area, this one-day event took many, many months of organizing, and successfully raised over $55,000 for our club. - submitted by Karl Hanley |

Dundas Valley Sunrise is Happy to Announce: There’s A New Club in Town - The Rotary Satellite Club of Dundas Valley Sunrise: STamp Out Polio (STOP) The Club is a cause-based club, as encouraged by Past R.I. President, Jennifer Jones. We have 14 members with another pending. The Club meets at Betula Restaurant in Dundas at 7:00 pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month. The Club is planning a Charter Celebration on World Polio Day (Tuesday, October 24) and has already held its first fundraiser to purchase polio vaccines. Our Club’s motto is “Easy & Fun!” We believe: "If polio exists anywhere, it threatens children everywhere!” Let’s End Polio Now! Dunki rk-Fredonia Rotary Club's Fly-In BreakfastThe Dunkirk-Fredonia Rotary Club's Fly-In Breakfast returned to the Chautauqua County Airport in Dunkirk this year after a 3-year hiatus. Grand Island Paint Recycle EventThe Rotary  Club of Grand Island ran a Paint Recycling Event in August. We asked our local Lion's Club to help us so we had  enough volunteers to direct traffic through the High School Parking lot. It was a huge success. Total income $4,919.85 in donations to the Rotary Club - donations from grateful citizens were amazing. We thanked the Lion's club for their help by presenting them a check for $1,000 out of the proceeds. These are the stats we received back from GreenSheen, our partner company who recycles the paints and coatings into new products. 580 vehicles serviced 78 cubic yard boxes/ pallets collected Latex/ water/ acrylic based coatings collected = 60,068 lbs Oil based coatings collected = 6,357 lbs - submitted by Sherry Miller

Literacy for Newborns: The Rotary Club of Jamestown Feeds Young Minds The Rotary Club of Jamestown celebrated Rotary’s Basic Education and Literacy month with the launch of its inaugural Books and Bibs initiative. The two-year project was developed by the Club’s Literacy Committee to help increase the number of mothers (regardless of socio-economic level) who begin reading to their children as newborns. The Club was thrilled to have the funding and logistical support of Rotary District 7090, UPMC Chautauqua, Crèche for Kids, James Prendergast Library and Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant to make this project a reality.   On August 12 & 13, as they have for over 45 years, the Lewiston/NOTL Rotary Club sold hot dogs at the Lewiston Art Festival, to raise money for charity, raise their profile in the community, provide a place to sit down, and an affordable meal for those harried parents trying to find something their small child might eat. Each year this juried outdoor art show brings 25,000 visitors to the heart of the picturesque and historic Village of Lewiston, New York.  The weather cooperated and the inaugural Bike the Benchlands Tour was held August 26 with great success! Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers and participants the day went well and $5000 was raised by donation from the cyclists and forwarded to Pathstone Mental Health other monies raised will be used for Rotary Club of Lincoln Ontario Canada youth initiatives.  Members of the Rotary Club of Lincoln participated in the 34 thAnnual Beamsville & District Lions Food Drive held September 16, 2023. Along with approximately 200 community volunteers the Rotary club worked at the sorting station where all the food collected was sorted, date sorted and trucked to the Community Care of West Niagara facility for storage and dispersal to clients in need of help.  In a collaborative effort to advance healthcare and improve the lives of patients in the Niagara Region, four Rotary Clubs – Fort Erie, St Catharines Lakeshore, Welland, and Niagara Falls Sunrise – are proud to announce their partnership with the Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation (HDSF). Together, they have donated funds totaling $19,620 to purchase three state-of-the-art Stryker S3 Patient Beds for the hospital, furthering their commitment to the well-being of the Niagara community. To fund the acquisition of these beds, the Rotary Clubs tirelessly raised funds within their respective communities. Additionally, they applied for a District Grant through the Rotary Foundation, which greatly supported their endeavor.  Norfolk Sunrise Welcomes Back Old Friends
They are back from their Ukrainian homeland; safe in Canada and they are most grateful for this great personal turn of events. Alex, Yuliia & Yeva, having lived in Canada before (Yullia is a past-member of our RCNS Club), returning to their native Ukraine at the onset of the current conflict. Now, they are living an opportunity to restart their lives in Canada and have been the recipients of Canadian hospitality and generosity. Indeed, our RCNS has offered much moral, materiel and financial support and has been active in getting them settled into their new community in St Thomas. Not to be outdone, the Rotary Club of St Thomas has stepped up and is offering terrific support as well. Rotary HIP 7090: HONOURING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES (HIP)“Can we dum  p yet?” The excitement was contagious as students in Pikangikum got out on the water to build their canoeing skills. Jim and Marjorie Dawson of RC Norfolk Sunrise were recently in Pikangikum, a northern Ontario First Nation, to provide canoe training for Grade 7 class and the outdoor education class. After a number of recent tragedies in the community, Cindy Spence, the Principal of the EBS school, asked Jim and Marjorie if they could come and provide a much-needed distraction for the students who had recently lost a member of their class. -submitted by Jim Dawson

Boys and Girls Club receives a new water fountain This summer the Orchard Park Rotary Club purchased a new water fountain for the Boys and Girls Club of Orchard Park and on August 31 st members of our club visited the Boys and Girls club to see the new water fountain. Executive Director, Adam Wittmeyer, showed us around and noted all the improvements they have been making to the club and what they hope to do. The water fountain replaces a very very old fountain and allows the children to fill their own reusable water bottles thus reducing the number of single use plastic bottles. The new fountain has a counter and just this summer alone the fountain has saved over 1,000 plastic bottles from being used. According to Adam the new fountain was an enormous hit with the children. |

Rotar y Club of St. Catharines Lakeshore Holds Grand Opening for Hospital GardenThe Rotary Club of St. Catharines Lakeshore held a Grand Opening Event on September 13 at the Clarice West Hobbs Contemplative Garden at the St. Catharines hospital site of the Niagara Health System. The Garden was named in memory of Clarice West Hobbs, long time member of the Club (over 20 years) and past Chair of the World & Community Service Committee.
