The Rotary Club of Waterdown marked Remembrance Day this year with a special presentation to the club by Robert Thomas of the Waterdown Legion (Branch 551) at our Nov. 13 meeting.
Robert spoke about his time as a UN Peacekeeper some 60 years ago, when he served as part of the UN’s Emergency Force in the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Desert. He also recalled the history of the local Legion, and the importance of the annual Poppy Campaign, which supports veterans and their families.
The Waterdown club also honoured our veterans by laying a wreath at the Legion cenotaph during the Remembrance Day ceremonies. Club member Paul Durnan did the honours and was impressed with the attendance.
