BUCKETS OF HOPE FOR FLOOD VICTIMS
The flooding in the Southern United States damaged a lot of homes and caused hardship for many Americans. The Rotary Club of LeRoy thought it would be nice to do something domestically. Martha Bailey, Chairperson of Buckets of Hope reached out to Kari Collins, President of the Rotary Club of Merrells Inlet, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Kari advised that the need for canned goods and cleaning supplies was great. The project was kicked off and implemented in a week and a half.
Donation request letters were mailed, posters made, local penny saver ad printed, and collection sites established. The club then had a collection day in a parking lot belonging to Rotarian Tom McGinnis, who made his business available to store the donated items. Then it was another night of LeRoy Rotarians getting together to package everything up and get ready to ship. All cleaning supplies were placed in buckets, labeled and individually shrink wrapped. The canned goods were boxed in manageable amounts. All in, the committee ended up with two pallets of “Buckets of Hope”. The community came together with donations of money and items. The pallets were shipped by truck to Kari’s business, and the Merrells Inlet Rotarians will distribute the buckets individually.
The Rotary Club of LeRoy would like to thank all that helped and for the cooperating club’s guidance and help. The Rotary Club of Albion also made a special trip to bring us donations. A special thank you also to LeRoy Rotarian, Tom McGinnis for his extra efforts.
