The Rotary Club of Batavia had a great and very giving November. As is tradition we held 2 events that really make a difference to our Club and our community.For the past 9 years we have held an auction at a Club meeting where we offer all kinds of items provided by members to help raise funds for Polio Plus. Our annual goal has been $3000 and every year we have exceeded that target.
Another tradition of the Batavia Club is to share a Thanksgiving meal with our local Kiwanis Club. It’s wonderful to visit with other members of our community and review the good works both service clubs are completing in our area.
Overall a thankful and giving season for the Rotary Club of Batavia and fun was had by all!

AUCTION: All items are donated, anything from cakes, cookies, pies and scones to golf equipment and art our members are very generous and know that our funds will go to the Polio Plus fund and be matched by the District, RI and the Gates Foundation. We also have loads of fun trying to keep the delectable desserts from other members. This year we were able to raise $4125.00 in just under an hour. With the help of Todd Jantzi from Bontrager Auctions of Batavia we’ve raised over $30,000 through these auctions. When matched by the District/RI and Gates Foundation we hope this brings us much closer to eradicating polio in the world. SHARING WITH KIWANIS: The meeting concludes with “Happy Dollars” from everyone in attendance and these funds will be used to support the holiday giving efforts of both Clubs. This year we raised $292.00 just during the luncheon. We also have a bit of fun by challenging each club to raise the most money on the days when we volunteer to ring the bells at the Salvation Army Red Kettle site at our local supermarket. We will have to wait until later this year to see who prevails.
