BNHV is located along Tonawanda Creek near the Erie Canal on a 35-acre campus and contains ten historic buildings built during the 19
th century. These buildings were moved (
or de-constructed, then re-constructed) during the Town of Amherst’s rapid growth and development in the ‘70s and ‘80s. A dedicated, on-going program of preservation and conservation has resulted in these buildings being restored to their 19
th century appearance so that visitors
may experience what life was like in the Buffalo-Niagara Region during an earlier era. An indoor museum features rotating dynamic and static exhibits, a research library, and an extensive collection of artifacts. During summer months, docents are present in the village.
