GROWING AGAIN

With the addition of two more members already in June, the Rotary E-Club of Southern Ontario – Western New York (SOWNY) continues to grow its membership.

On June 1, 2017, Georgina Bencsik from Woodbridge and Ottawa, Ontario joined the E-Club of SOWNY. Georgina’s career spans advocacy, consulting and senior management roles. She has spent most of her career as an advocate and director for various organizations and issues concerning art, business, culture, environment, sustainability, media, fashion, film, public relations, public policy, finance, real estate, taxation, health, education, transportation, infrastructure and human rights with a strong voice for Canada’s diversity and multiculturalism. A graduate of the University of Toronto, she has served as an Academic Board member on the University of Toronto Governing Council. Since 2008, Georgina has been Managing Director of 1 Media Inc., and Political Editor of Toronto Waterfront Magazine.
Georgina enjoys challenges and thinking "out of the box" in promoting novel and creative approaches to increasingly complex organizational and societal problems. As a testament to her dedication she was voted runner-up in Equal Voice’s “Greatest Ontario Female Premier” and selected from thousands of applicants for her commitment to the environment to become a Certified Presenter for Al Gore’s Climate Project and National Community Manager for Canada. As a Director of the United Nations Association in Canada – National Capital Region Branch, Georgina has agreed to become SOWNY International Service / World Community Service Chair to lead our efforts to assist and support Toronto’s award-winning PACT Urban Peace Project to expand internationally to US cities. As a long-time volunteer with the Toronto International Microfinance Summit (TIMS), she has also joined the SOWNY Microfinance and Social Enterprise Committee.

On June 9, 2017, the E-Club of SOWNY welcomed back its Charter President Paul McAfee from Lockport, NY. Paul is an Adjunct Instructor of Business at the State University of New York at Buffalo’s School of Management at the Singapore and Amherst, NY campuses. He recently taught for a year as an Adjunct Professor of Business at Daemen College. Since 2012, Paul has been teaching undergraduate business degree courses at Keuka College in Vietnam and China. A Rotarian since 1986, Paul was the District 7090 Public Image Director for 7 years. Since leaving the E-Club of SOWNY, Paul spent some time as a member of the United Services Rotary E-Club in District 5340 (San Diego), which was the first E-Club in the world to meet on Facebook. More recently, Paul has been a member of the Rotary Club of Lockport, NY (where he lives) in District 7090. Initially, Paul has agreed to help SOWNY Public Relations Chair Albert Kim and SOWNY Youth Services Chair Darren Luong in improving and updating the SOWNY website and SOWNY Facebook page.
