CLUB NAMED BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce named the Rotary Club of Niagara County Central the Sanborn Business of the Year. The Sanborn Business and Professional Association assist the chamber in providing a business nomination that has showed dedication and service to the Sanborn community. The club is involved in the community, from sponsoring programs to organizing events, they volunteer tirelessly to make the region a better place for all.
Some of the major events that are hosted by the Rotary include: Olde Sanborn Days (now in its 26th year), Cabin Fever Antique Show, Apple Tree Antique Show and Auto Part Swap Meet. Some of the programs benefitting from the funds raised by these events include the Roger W. Andrews Senior Breakfast – a free breakfast for senior citizens held at Niagara Wheatfield HS and Wreaths Across America, placing wreaths on veterans’ graves. In 2015, the club raised enough funds to pay for thirty wreaths to adorn veteran graves at Oakwood Cemetery in Niagara Falls. Community programs that are supported by the Rotary include Carolyn’s House, WNY Heroes and Empower (formerly Niagara Cerebral Palsy).
Programs are also held for students. The Rotary purchases and distributes over 900 dictionaries to Third Grade students. Each school in their jurisdiction, both public and parochial are a part of this program. Scholarships are also provided to students from Wilson, Niagara Wheatfield and Starpoint school Districts. 6 scholarships of $1000 each are awarded. The Niagara County Central Rotary Club also sponsors the Interact Club for High School Students at NW, and the Rotaract Club at Niagara County Community College.
