One Rotarian from the Manhasset club on Long Island started the Gift of Life (GOL) project 50 years ago, and one Rotarian from the Lancaster-Depew Club has implemented a personal challenge to other Rotarians and rotary clubs to enhance the work of GOL.Inspired by a challenge made by the Clarence RC last year, he decided to mark his 25th year in Rotary with a personal gift of $250.
He challenged his club to match his gift so that the club’s gift would now be $500. His club, Lancaster-Depew, in turn, has challenged other clubs in District 7090 to match its donation.
Will your club be the one to match this donation?
Are you a Rotarian who would like to make a personal donation? Every club that donates, as well as individual donors, has the joy of knowing that a child’s life has been saved every day because of your generosity.
With this unsolicited generous donation by one Rotarian, GOL begins its 33rd year of working with District 7090. Each year our district encourages clubs to donate at least $100, a small amount to save a child’s life.
Every year, 1.5 million children globally are born with a congenital heart defect. Of these, 93% lack access to care. GOL provides care every 99 minutes and 5000 children are treated each year.
It is a charitable 501(c3) organization composed of all volunteers except for two administrative positions.
Charity Navigator has given it a 100% rating. Rotary has played a significant role in this international project serving underdeveloped and underserved populations in 80 countries.
If you or your club would like to make the match requested by Lancaster-Depew, or to make any other donation, or request a club presentation, please contact: Cathy Henry at dhenry1@cogeco.ca in Canada or Pat Castiglia at ptcas34@hotmail.com in the U.S.
