Members of the Rotary Club of Jamestown helped at the 2nd Annual YWCA Jamestown "Coldest Night of the Year" Fundraiser on February 24. Also participating: members of the Falconer and Greater Jamestown AM Rotary Clubs. Object: to raise funds for the YWCA’s Transitions Supportive Housing Program, said Rotary Wheelers team captain Marion Beckerink.Rotary Club members were some of the many local groups rallying behind this community effort, building teams, finding sponsors, and participating in the walk. Beckerink explained, “Many people don’t realize how quickly circumstances can change for some people who end up without a roof over their heads, this event allows families and club members to help neighbors sleep in a warm, safe, environment, all while enjoying a walk around the City of Jamestown and still be home before dark.”

Two different routes were offered to the walkers: a 2-kilometer loop around downtown Jamestown and a 5-kilometer loop through downtown Jamestown and including the Riverwalk. The effort ended with a light meal at 6 p.m.
Transitions Supportive Housing provides safe and affordable housing and service-enriched case management to women and children who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. The program offers opportunities for residents to identify their capabilities and develop the new skills necessary to be successful at healthy independent living.
