The Rotary Club of Jamestown Foundation Chairman Joni Blackman presented a Paul Harris Fellow Award to long-time Rotarian Mike Roberts at the Club’s recent recognition banquet. Mike is President/Owner of Allied Alarm Services and was President of the Jamestown Club in 2000-2001 and most recently co-chaired the Club’s major fundraiser, the Rotary Auction.  There are not many organizations in the Jamestown area that Mike has not served including United Way, Moon Brook Country Club, the Italian American Golf Tournament, and Toys for Tots to name just a few. His generosity has been felt by the Jamestown club for many years with his donation of office space at his business to house Club records and memorabilia.
This is Roberts fourth Paul Harris Award and Mrs. Roberts first.
Mike chose to honor the ‘Love of His Life’– his wife Karen, with a Paul Harris Fellow citing her participation at his side in almost everything he is involved in while carrying out the heavy duties of wife, mother and grandmother. The couple are devoted members of the Bemus Point Methodist Church and support their every effort as well.
Jamestown Rotary Club Immediate Past President and newly elected Area 16 Assistant Governor Marion Beckerink has been a strong and consistent supporter of the Rotary Foundation. She donates every month through the ROTARY DIRECT program.
Marian had attained enough recognition points to be recognized with her second Paul Harris Fellow. She chose to transfer this recognition to a member of the Jamestown Club and chose to designate another member of the Club as a PHF by transferring recognition points that the Club had accumulated.
Sue and Greg Jones were honored as multiple Paul Harris Fellows in special appreciation for the many ways in which their lives exemplify the humanitarian and educational objectives of the Rotary Foundation.
Greg was chosen not only based on his 50 years of exemplary service as both Past President, Rotary Foundation Chair and 30 years as Sergeant-at-Arms, but also his willingness now to Chair the Club’s Red Kettle Campaign for the Salvation Army and the countless efforts he continues to make to support the Rotary Club of Jamestown whenever called to duty.
Sue was designated to receive this recognition by Marion as she has fulfilled 25 years of service as Club President, past Chair of the Vision and Communication Committees as well as serving on the Foundations, Invocation and Auction Committees. Sue has served as an ad hoc member of the Board of Directors since 2015 and like Greg, will continue to assume a leadership role this year, serving as Club Secretary.
Marion went on to say that Greg and Sue never stop finding ways to be of service to the Jamestown Club and have left their fingerprints everywhere. Each is gifted in communicating as well as gathering the minutiae of the Club history, collecting personal anecdotal information as Sergeant-at-Arms and inspiring to connect the Club’s contributions to the phenomenal impact of the Rotary Foundation.
