4 YOUTH-CENTRIC CLUBS

On May 10th, 2017, the 4 youth clubs sponsored by the Rotary Club of Grand Island came together for a special celebration. The presenting of  the charter for the newest Interact club, the Veronica Connor Middle School Interact Club (pictured).  DG Marlee Diehl presented the charter and talked to the more than 50 students that came from the four clubs: the Huth Elementary Earlyact Club, the Kaegebein Elementary Earlyact Club, the Grand island High School Interact Club and the new Interact club at the Veronica Middle School. The two Earlyact clubs were initially organized by Mary Haggerty, Principal of Kaegebein Elementary school and the event was organized by Kerri Nowak.  Both Mary and Kerri are members of Grand Island Rotary, as well as Brian Graham, the Superintendent of Grand Island School District.
In addition to the presentation of the charter, an amended charter was issued to the high school which was formerly known as the Grand Island Interact club and is now known as the Grand island High School Interact club.

Rotarian Kerri arranged for pizza to be served and Rotarian Fred Farnham of the Welland club to attend.  Freddie, the balloon man, came in costume and made balloon figures mainly for the EarlyActors.
Rotarian Kerri also had each club President tell of one project the clubs had accomplished over the year including making quilts and stockings for refugees, to helping with Adopt a Highway, as well as purple pinky events  to raise money for Polio Plus. Two of the students in the High School interact club also attended Slapshot.

The advisors for all four clubs are teachers in the Grand lsland school system: Stephanie Pritchard, Kaegebein Earlyact, Rhonda Taylor, Huth Earlyact, Carley Antonelli and Crystal Barnes, Veronica Connor Middle School Interact and Laura Birganti, GI High School Interact.
