GREAT LAKES WATERSHED CLEANUP RETURNS

DISTRICT 7090 GREAT LAKES WATERSHED CLEANUP

WEEK of EARTH DAY APRIL 22 (16TH-24TH)

As you know as part of Governor Anne’s mission to increase membership through Service Projects our District is encouraging every Rotary and Rotaract Club to once again participate in this Rotary Area of Focus-Protecting the Environment.  We will be joining 14 Districts surrounding the Great Lakes in the largest international Service Club initiative.  Below is an Action Plan for which we are seeking your Club’s approval.  It is our hope and belief that this year COVID restrictions will be lifted allowing us to proceed during Earth Week.

ACTION PLAN:
  • Seek Club endorsement
  • Appoint a point person and Committee
  • Notify the District of your intent to participate
  • Establish a Date(s) for cleanup
  • Pick locations – Lakeshore, rivers, tributaries or lakes emptying into the Great Lakes or parks, trails or roadways that are traditionally cleaned
  • Seek out partners such as Parks & Recreation, Conservation Authorities, Sierra Club, Riverkeepers, etc.
  • Consider partnering with Clubs in your Area
  • Consider partnering with Rotaractors and Interactors who you sponsor
  • Invite non-Rotarians who potentially could be new members (20% of your contingent)
  • Invite High Schools, Scouts, Army Cadets, etc. to participate
  • Utilize your club’s website and other social media to promote the cleanup ie. Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, etc.
  • Report on your cleanup metrics to the District re: number of bags collected, weight of refuse, pictures of cleanup
  • Post results on your social media and print media
