Restocking Those Who Feed the Hungry
Twenty-five members and friends of The Rotary Club of Dundas Valley Sunrise and its satellite club, Stop Polio Now, visited two area farms to harvest at the end of the season free of charge. They picked over $8000 worth of fresh produce that was quickly distributed to The Dundas Salvation Army food bank, the Hamilton Jewish Family Services food bank, Welcome Inn Community Centre, Mission Services, Out of the Cold, The Hub, and several community pantries and fridges. This is the third year for the gleaning program. Ralph and Barb Montesanto’s garage was filled with boxes and bins of cabbage, egg plants, butternut squash, potatoes and a variety of mild and hot peppers.PHOTO: Jody Beck, Barb Montesanto, Gwyn Campbell, Judy St. James, Joe Guedes, Ralph Montesanto and Fraser Forrest celebrate the harvest along with a garage full of the produce on the first of three days of gleaning.
