THE REAL WINNERS

After great success in its inaugural year, the Rotary Club of Batavia recently held its 2nd Annual Rotary Auction to benefit Polio Plus. Contrary to other fundraising efforts where the club relies on the generosity of non-Rotarian benefactors, this event’s auction items and proceeds come exclusively from Batavia Rotarians at a regular weekly meeting.

Hilarity ensued as eager Rotarians attempted to out-bid each other.  Where else can you get a tray of homemade scones for a mere $160, a “mystery gift” for $100, a fresh bunch of homegrown asparagus for $105 or a $30 gift certificate to a newly defunct restaurant at a bargain price of $50?  And, the real winners are the children and adults from distant lands who will be Polio free.  Around $2000 was raised.
