ARTIST AT WORK

The pieces are literally coming together for this major project that will shout Rotary from the corner of State and Union in Lincoln Park in Olean, NY.

The stone was moved from temporary storage in Allegany to Lincoln Park on May 19.

The club hosted a major fund raiser on May 23 raising significant dollars to help finance our signature project. There are too many to thank, but club members, community members, the City of Olean, our stone artist Isaiah Rashad II, the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, and Crandall’s Memorial have been PHENOMENAL!
Official carving began on May 29 and progress has been made on the North Union Street side of the Masterpiece. Our stone carver is using hand chisels and mallets, and, occasionally, hand power tools.  Community members have been watching the work and Isaiah is eager to teach.

The custom made, 2-sided, 18-inch bronze Rotary wheel arrived the first week of June.  It will be the last piece added to the top, making the monument 9.5 feet tall.

The project is projected to be completed in September. All four sides of the masterpiece will point lookers to communities near and far.  All four sides of the base will have abbreviated versions of the Rotary 4 Way Test.

Come and visit! We are Rotary proud!
