Since the District conference in October, our inbound students have continued to engage and involve themselves within the communities and families of their host Clubs all across 7090. Volunteering at their schools and with their Clubs; competing at curling, sailing, soccer, and hockey; singing in choirs, acting in plays, these outstanding kids continue to breath life and spirit into our homes and communities while they themselves continue to experience life and opportunities that they could never imagine! So many thanks to all participating Clubs for your continued support and participation!

Ed Fancher is honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest award given in the Rotary Club. Fancher receives the award on Friday evening from Kevin Crosby, Rotary district governor for 7090, which includes 69 clubs in Western New York and Canada.
Fancher’s wife Christine and Don Bishop, pictured left, also were part of the award presentation at Terry Hills Golf Course during a holiday party for Rotarians in Orleans and Genesee counties.
Christmas traditions in other countries are fascinating to learn about -- and at its Dec. 21 meeting, the Rotary Club of Jamestown had the opportunity to do just that when Rotary Exchange students Irina Rey of Switzerland and José Bazán of Spain spoke to club members about their Christmas traditions. Rey is the Rotary Exchange student for the Rotary Club of Jamestown, while Bazán is the Rotary Exchange student for the Greater Jamestown AM Rotary Club.
The Rotary Club of Olean has been sponsoring and supporting the city of Olean Youth Bureau & Recreation for years with free ice-skating at the city rink in War Vets Park over the annual Christmas recess. This year Olean Rotarians were there with helium-filled Rotary balloons, being A GIFT TO THE WORLD!
The flooding in the Southern United States damaged a lot of homes and caused hardship for many Americans. The Rotary Club of LeRoy thought it would be nice to do something domestically. Martha Bailey, Chairperson of Buckets of Hope reached out to Kari Collins, President of the Rotary Club of Merrells Inlet, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Kari advised that the need for canned goods and cleaning supplies was great. The project was kicked off and implemented in a week and a half.
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum located in Hamilton has school programs for Grade 6 and Grade 10 students as well as programs for Scouts, Guides and Beavers. Ancaster Rotary AM Club recently sponsored the Grade 6 classes from Dr Davey School for the day long program at the museum.

Lisa Bishop, President of the “small but mighty” Delhi Rotary, challenged the Simcoe and Norfolk Sunrise clubs to raise funds for polio eradication. But there was a catch – the challenge also involved plunging into the frigid waters of Lake Erie on New Year’s Day in the annual Polar Bear Dip.
The horse may be retiring but her owner isn’t. Rotary Club of Hamilton East-Wentworth member, Lois Allison, has informed us that her 11 year old trotting mare has run her last race and will now go on to produce more racers for this popular sport. ‘Brontewine’, who is the last racing progeny of ‘Balanced Image’, a famous Hall of Fame stallion whose offspring has earned over $111 million to date, for their various owners.
West Seneca Rotary Club is starting a new fundraiser this year – on June 5th, we’ll be having our first Antique Appraisal Fair. For a small fee, we will have a professional appraiser value that picture you found in the attic or your grandma’s favorite broach.
In the spirit of the season, the Rotary Club of Lewiston, NY & Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON helps support the Lewiston Council on the Arts. This year the club sponsored the very first "Bluegrass Monday" that brings talented Bluegrass artists from Ontario and Western New York to Hennepin Park Gazebo in Lewiston for a concert free to the public and, incidentally, gets the name of Rotary out before the public. The Club is pleased to continue their support, and the Council on the Arts will be expanding the number of concerts this coming Summer.

Rotary Club of St. Catharines members enjoyed attending the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre grand opening in downtown St. Catharines! The club was pleased to support this worthy project with a $30,000.00 donation!
The Rotary Club of Grimsby had the rare privilege of inducting five new Rotarians on December 3rd. District Governor Kevin Crosby inducted the new members in the presence of a full complement of our regular members, including two inaugural members from the clubs formation in 1976.
December 25, 2015 saw the Rotary Club of Brantford celebrate its most long-lived tradition. An annual practice begun by Rotarian Gerry McDonald, the Rotary Christmas Sing at the Brantford General Hospital has taken place every Christmas Day since 1949 to cheer up inpatients unable to go home on Christmas day.

The Saturn Club filled with Rotary spirit on Wednesday, November 18, as the clubs in Buffalo - Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), Buffalo Sunrise, and Buffalo Noon, collaborated to honor fellow Rotarian Patrick Whalen. The occasion was his retiring as COO of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. About 100 friends filled the main ball room for lunch, tributes and a special toast.
The competition is fierce and friendly as the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus prepares for its second annual chili cook off to take place on January 31, 2016. Prizes will once again be awarded to the top three teams who garner the most votes for their version of the best chili in Western New York. You can participate by forming a team, coming to root on your Rotary team, or just coming to taste a variety of mouth watering and diverse chili selections.
