WHY YOU SHOULD ENCOURAGE YOUR MEMBERS TO ATTEND OUR DISTRICT CONFERENCE
As I visit clubs, I explain that I might have dropped out of Rotary if I hadn’t gone to Multi-District PETS about six months after joining Rotary. Up to that point, my awareness of Rotary was limited to the activities of my small club. Once I attended Multi-District PETS, I discovered the bigger world of Rotary beyond my club. That’s when I really became a Rotarian. I believe many people who join Rotary don’t really discover what Rotary is all about until they attend a large Rotary event beyond their own club.
I would like you to encourage any newer members of your club to attend our District Conference at the Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville, NY, October 23-25, 2015. I know they will have a great experience. They will make new friends and enjoy the fellowship of Rotarians from across our District. They will also learn about the rich cornucopia of projects, programs and activities that comprise the world of Rotary, across our District and around the world.
At 4:00 pm on Friday, October 23, just prior to the opening reception for the conference, we will have a free program called “Welcome to the World of Rotary.” This has been designed for the new Rotarian as well as anyone else who wants to learn what Rotary is all about. This session will provide an inspiring orientation to Rotary. It will be at the same location at the opening reception (The Yodeler Lodge) so attendees can go right from the program to the reception in the same building.
If you can persuade your newer members to attend our District Conference and the “Welcome to the World of Rotary” program, I can almost guarantee that they will come back to your club full of enthusiasm for Rotary and more committed than ever to be an active contributor to your club.
Under the leadership of DG Kevin Crosby, DGE Marlee Diehl, and IPDG Jack Amico, a new committee has been formed in the District. This new group is the Club Support Team. Its members have been charged with helping clubs become more successful and to improve the club’s ability to retain and recruit more members in the process.
The Club Support Team includes A.J. Block, Jeff Noble, Bob Morrow, and “Doc” Hamels. The committee is co-chaired by PDGs Ralph Montesanto and John Heise. Each member has had experience in assisting groups with organizational challenges, whether it be scouts, churches, businesses, or Rotary clubs.
The team has developed a tool box of ideas for clubs and club leadership. If your club is interested, please contact one of the team members or the chairs.
Outcomes of Using Diverse Approaches to Educate Rotarians As seen in 2018
This month instead of telling you, club leaders and members, how District will roll out the District Vision; we are seeking suggestions from you about how you wish to see this rolled out. You are very savvy and we want your ideas about the best way to deliver programs to clubs. We have District trainers ready to develop the material in person. There are many webinars on-line. Which delivery method excites you? Will you work with others in your region to organize local seminars?
The good you do comes back to you. Rotary's new member benefits program gives Rotary members access to discounts on a variety of products and services selected with their interests in mind.
Rotary Global Rewards offers discounts on car rentals, hotels, dining, and entertainment. More products and services from companies around the world will be added throughout the year. Check back often to see what’s new in Rotary Global Rewards. Continue reading to find out how to redeem offers and more.............

The Hamilton Golf and Country Club was a superb host. Roger Donald of the LCBO educated on the history and peculiarities of fine single malt scotch and Dr. Bob Scott, Rotarian from Cobourg, put a real human face on the fight to Eradicate Polio. Scott outlined why the mountains of Pakistan are such a problem (last place on earth facing the native polio virus). He told us of his personal connection with some of the immunization workers killed last year and how he has ended up doing polio vaccinations with armed guards alongside.

A member of the Albion Rotary Club will become District Governor next July 1, leading a district of about 70 clubs in Western New York and Southern Ontario.
Marlee Diehl was to take over as district governor in 2017, but the next district governor stepped down from consideration. The current district governor, Kevin Crosby, said input from the district’s leadership was unanimous in having Diehl assume the reins a year ahead of when she had planned.
“She is very dependable and she’s a tremendous asset for the district,” Crosby said after a recent visit with Albion Rotarians.

At the August 31 meeting of the Rotary Club of Jamestown, Rotarian Mark Baldwin, formerly a longtime educator at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, spoke about Roger Tory Peterson and how various locations throughout Jamestown laid the foundation for Peterson's life's work as the most prominent American nature educator of the 20th Century. Baldwin spoke about several locations throughout Jamestown that were important to Peterson's life, including Peterson's boyhood home on Bowen Street; the reservoir at the top of Swede Hill; the 100 Acre Lot on Curtis Street Extension; and Lakeview Cemetery.
