aUlTbExDZzZUR25PczVQZU9zS01rUT09 Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup – 2022 Or
ientation With Earth Day on April 22nd just around the corner\, the Rotary
Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup offers your club the opportunity to provide
local leadership\, community service\, and interesting partnerships to co
llect and dispose of litter within your club’s footprint. Whether it is
 meeting by a lakeside or by a creek\, walking trail\, or scouring a park\,
getting your team together and tidying up in the springtime is what some
communities do. Join this meeting to learn about plans and planning\, or h
ear a few others talk about their experiences and tips from last year. Eve
nts will take place between April 16 to 23 across our District as well as
in other Districts across the Great Lakes. Some details you might need to
know: Club community service leads or their designate are encouraged to jo
in. If you have a role or not with your club and you are keen you are also
welcome to join in.  Your club does not necessarily need to do a large e
vent. We will talk about options of doing a small event\, scaling up year
over year\, and hear from a few clubs on their event from last year and wh
at they plan to do for this year.  We will discuss how to further partner
 ships with like-minded groups\, Conservation Authorities\, agencies\, scho
ols\, and your local municipal Parks Department.  We will note ways to ge
t over 20% non-Rotarians to participate in your clean-up.  There will be
a few points on logistics when you have the event such as safety\, reporti
ng in afterward\, and using the social media bounce to promote membership
and your club’s impact. We will also note some online resources and how
we can work to share documents and information. There is good flexibility
around the April 16th-23rd date as activities may need to be moved becaus
e of weather or availability. If this is your first Cleanup it does not ha
ve to be huge. Some clubs are welcome to partner up or send folks to anoth
er club’s Cleanup.  We will have at least two more organizing Zoom meet
ings prior to our events around April 22nd. While we encourage you to join
in this meeting we will be recording it for future use.  Something to co
nsider is with the addition of Environment as Rotary’s seventh area of f
ocus\, some clubs have designated a lead person on environmental issues an
d projects. Please contact Dave Alexander at econiagara@gmail.com if you
are interested in helping organize the District 7090 efforts or the follow
-up activities with Districts across the Great Lakes basin.
