GLOBAL CLUB FOUNDED

District 7090’s new global Rotary E-Club of Social Innovators (RESI) charter application was submitted to RI headquarters on December 15, 2017, requesting a December 2017 start date, and sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Brantford and Brantford Sunrise.  At its founding, the RESI is a model of balanced diversity. Not only is RESI a truly global e-club with members on 6 continents (i.e., Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America), but its gender balance is perfect with 20 women and 20 men among the 40 Founding RESI Members.
RESI also has a quite diverse age makeup with:
  • 2 Founding Members in their 20s;
  • 9 Founding Members in their 30s;
  • 7 Founding Members in their 40s;
  • 9 Founding Members in their 50s;
  • 8 Founding Members in their 60s; and
  • 5 Founding Members in their 70s.
RESI’s youngest Founding Member is 25; and its oldest Founding Member is 79!
Finally, RESI has a good mix of experienced Rotarians, Rotary Alumni and brand new Rotarians with:
  • 14 of Founding RESI Members being current or past Rotarians;
  • 5 of Founding RESI Members being Rotary Peace Fellows; and
  • 2 of Founding RESI Members being Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars.
Founding RESI Members to have High Profile at 2018 Toronto RI Convention
 
RESI Founding Members will have a high-profile at the 2018 Toronto Rotary International Convention – during the convention itself, as well as at pre-convention and post-convention events.
 
Founding RESI Members and Corporate Partners are involved in the following four breakout sessions that have been approved for the 2018 Rotary International Convention in Toronto:
  • “Luis Giay’s Vision Realized: PACT Urban Peace Project” breakout session will be moderated by RESI President Gordon Crann, one of the presenters will be Founding RESI Member David Lockett (who is PACT Co-Founder & President) and another of the presenters will be Catalina Chaux, who is a volunteer with Founding RESI Corporate Partner Mediators Beyond Borders (MBBI).
  • “Peace Begins @ Home - Doesn't End There - Handling Club Conflict” breakout session is being put on by Founding RESI Corporate Partner MBBI will involve one or more Founding RESI Members.
  • “Women are Building Peace Around the World & Rotary is Helping” breakout session is being put on by Founding RESI Corporate Partner MBBI will involve one or more Founding RESI Members.
  • “Rotary HIP – Canada’s Indigenous Leaders and Success in Action” breakout session is being put on by Rotary Honouring Indigenous Peoples (HIP) and Founding RESI Member Lisa Farano, who serves on the Rotary HIP Board, has been involved in organizing this breakout session.
Founding RESI Member Marguerite Pyron is working on organizing a Tall Ship Dinner Cruise on the historic Empire Sandy as a host event on Monday evening during the Toronto RI Convention.
 
Founding RESI Members are now poised to take on leadership roles at an Ending Ultra Poverty Summit for 100-300 attendees on June 28th and an Ending Ultra Poverty Retreat for 40-50 attendees on June 29th in downtown Toronto immediately following the 2018 Rotary International Convention.
 
RESI President Gordon Crann will be a Co-Chair of the Ending Ultra Poverty Summit; and RESI Chief Ending Poverty Officer Bob Sample will be a Co-Chair of the Ending Ultra Poverty Retreat.
 
In addition, it is expected that major projects by Founding RESI Corporate Partners CARE and FINCA (as well as by the Grameen Foundation, whose President & CEO Steve Hollingworth is a Founding RESI Member, and one or two other major international NGOs) will be highlighted during the post-convention Summit and/or Retreat.
 
RESI Founding Member Susan Hartley, who is a Rotary Peace Fellow from Prince Edward Island, is involved with the facilitation of two Resilience Retreats with Space Bangkok in Toronto, one on either side of the 2018 RI Convention, see: https://www.space-bangkok.com/toronto2018retreats
 
Founding RESI Corporate Partners involved in Rotary Presidential Environmental Sustainability and Peace Conference
 
Two Founding RESI Corporate Partners – Mediators Beyond Borders (MBBI) and The Jane Goodall Institute – will have representatives involved with breakout sessions at the Rotary Presidential Environmental Sustainability and Peace Conference being held in Vancouver, B.C. on February 10, 2018.
 
Rotary Peace Fellow Glenn Raynor, who is Executive Director of the Jane Goodall Institute’s office in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, will be a presenter for the “Biodiversity Sustains Us All” and “Peace Scholars in Practice” breakout sessions.
 
Founding RESI Member Prabha Sankaranayan, who is President of Founding RESI Corporate Partner MBBI, will be a presenter in the “No Sustainability, No Peace” breakout session.
