WE CAME, WE SAW, WE LEFT!

In May, the Rotary Friendship Exchange folks from Western Australia D9465 visited us. Now, in October, it was our turn to visit them. We arrived in Perth on October 5 and worked our way south to Albany on the Southern Ocean and then back through Bunbury on the Indian Ocean and finally back to Perth for our departure on October 19. We were hosted magnificently. Wined, dined and treated to parties, dances and local areas of interest. We saw more kangaroos than Crocodile Dundee.

Each of us had our own highlights. One of mine was the visit to the ANZAC (Australia New Zealand Army Corp) Museum in Albany, the port where their soldiers departed en masse for Gallipoli in WWI. My wife Barb’s was holding a baby white kangaroo.
Australia has some very good wines and here we have just sampled a few.  Pictured (left ot right): Ralph Montesanto, Libby Crossingham, Jim Peters, Pat Fyffe, Barb Montesanto, John Hadley, Linda Peters, Rita-Marie Hadley, Joy Flegg, Gary Snider, John Crossingham the team leader and Wayne Fyffe.Every few years D7090 will partner with another district for a friendship exchange. Some of the recent exchanges in the past were with New Zealand, Australia and Brazil.

A note from Rotary Friendship Exchange chair Charles Daly: “We have an opportunity for future exchanges especially since the RI Convention will be in Toronto at the end of June 2018. I have made overtures to districts on the Friendship Matching Board in Finland and Italy and am awaiting responses. If someone in the district has an interest or connection for exchanging with some area of the Rotary World I would be happy to work together.
